Update!

I know it's already weekend time again, but I totes need to share some of the fun we had last weekend when Grandma Carol, Grandpa B, and Aunt Darcey came to visit.

We ate and talked and laughed and ate some more. I got to take them to some of my favorite spots in the SAV, like Back in the Day Bakery, of course (a hit!).

And we went to the train yard that is by the railroad museum so that Grandpa and Darcey could ride one of the antique trains. And Grandpa got a conductor's hat. Because nothing on earth is better than Grandpa B wearing a conductor's hat. Nothing.

It was such a fun and relaxing weekend, and it really helped me to take my mind off of the anxiety that I had about returning to work on Monday. I was anxious because I didn't know how it was going to work logistically (we've been terrible about getting our wee one on any kind of reliable schedule) and how I was ever going to get enough sleep and how would pumping work and would I even remember my students' names and would I hate my job now that I have a baby? (And such a cute baby at that!)

So I returned to work on Monday, nervous, tired, and feeling a little bit overwhelmed.  And HOT DAMN I LOVED IT! I've never had May mornings where I was delighted to be walking the halls of my school, and I don't think I've ever been so tickled to be wearing heels and clothes that weren't pajamas, either. It was really nice to see my students, and all of the hugs and well-wishes sure made me feel loved and appreciated.

Being back at work has been great (except for the day that I spilled an entire bottle of breastmilk in my lap--that was pretty awful). I've enjoyed my job, and really relished the opportunity to get out of the house each day. And while it's been hard and tiring, it's good for us mostly because it's given me the time away that I need to actually start missing my little Charlie.* I miss him just the right amount. And he misses me just the right amount, too. We can get kind of sick of each other after weeks and weeks of being together nonstop.

Gratuitous baby picture.

So now, when I walk into my house, and my snugglin' pup greets me at the door and Matt walks over holding our cute little boy, I happily grab that baby and kiss him and cuddle him, and I so appreciate being able to appreciate being his mom.

****Charlie, if you're reading this far, far in the future. . . Well, if you're old enough to read then you're old enough to know that your mom just isn't a baby person. I probably like you way better now. Unless you became a republican. Jokes. You can be a republican if you want. I probably deserve it, anyway, for being so obsessed with Family Ties.****

Single Ladies Devastation

Somewhere in the world there exists a video of Aunt Darcey dancing to Beyonce's "Single Ladies," and then tripping over a cooler in the Carport Bistro and busting her ass.  It's a good video, but since Darcey is a professional, and since I do still retain some sense of propriety, I probably won't be posting it on the interwebs for the whole planet.  (Hear that, Darcey?  Target gift cards will work just fine.  Just how much is that video worth?)

But this one might even be better.

The best part is the sister in the middle.

Have a good Friday!

Christmas and Clueless and Mitch

This week has been crazy busy and tiring. Next week will be even crazier, so don't be suprised if you don't hear too much from us in the next ten days or so. BUT, there will be fun stories and pictures to share afterward. Perhaps Aunt Darcey will bust her ass again whilst performing the "Single Ladies" dance? One can only hope.

Quickly, though, let me fill you in on on the happenings around these parts. First, frivolous purchases.

Oh, Target, why dost thou possess such wondrous gifts for the holiday season? I spent $15 on five rolls of this stuff. I think it's supposed to be ribbon. I'll be using it as, hmmmmmmmm, I'm not sure. But it was beautiful and shiny.

Yeah, I'm judging me, too.

But I am thinking that once I pull out my boxes of Christmas goodies, I'll figure out how to use this stuff. Or maybe I'll just stare at it with my eyes crossed. Either one sounds fun to me.

Second, Mitch has been searching for critters in the back yard. To date, he's found nothing (which is a win for me), but he's persistant, and I fear that sooner or later there will be a mole or an opossum or a baby or some shit. Mitch, if you're reading this, please do not bring a baby into this household. If you do, no more treats or bones, and it'll thunderstorm all the time.

(These photos should also serve as a lesson to us about why we don't buy camera lenses off ebay for the low price of $30/each. I might as well have just set sixty big ones on fire.)

I guess it's kind of neat. But not "wide angle lens" neat. Stupid ebay, stupid Mandy.

And we've got friends in town this weekend, we're dogsitting Mitch's bud Reilly, we've got family in town Wednesday morning, then turkey day, then more family in town, and then hopefully a recovery.

Forgive us if posting is a bit sporadic. Percent chance I know the meaning of sporadic because of Clueless? 96%.

TAI

Cher, I don't wanna do this any more, and my buns, they don't feel nothin' like steel.

CHER

OK, it will get easier, I promise. Just as long as we do it every day. Not just sporadically.

TAI

How do you know if we're doing it sporadically?

CHER

That's another thing, Tai. We've got to work on your accent and vocabulary. See, sporadic means once in a while. Try and use it in a sentence today.

(Later on. . )

JOSH

Be seein' ya.

TAI

Yeah, I hope not sporadically.
