Phone Pictures

I'm a cough drop addict.

So is Mitch.

Any time I am eating a cough drop at home, this is what I see.

Damn spoiled dog.

Also, because I'm being super productive today (and by super productive, I mean that I slept until 1:00 and ate four pieces of leftover pizza while watching the news and some horrible Jessica-Simpson-Goes-to-Japan-and-Acts-Like-a-Moron show), I decided that it was high time to sort through stuff on my phone.  So, on this very exciting Thursday, I give you a year in phone pictures (mostly of that spoiled dog).

1.  Grandma on her Blackberry.

I love this.  Here's my Grandma on a gorgeous summer day, lounging on her back porch, swinging and watching videos of cats on YouTube on her new Blackberry.  And the dog under the swing?  Why is he so cute?

2.  Fletcher.

Oh, aching uterus!  This was one of our first times meeting Fletcher.  I can't remember if we turned his ears inside out of if that happened while he ran around like a maniac.  It doesn't matter, though, because he has one of the cutest little dog faces.  And he's about ten times bigger than that now.

3.  Back in the Day Bakery meal.

Rosemary chicken salad sandwich and an old-fashioned cupcake.  Mmmmmmmmmm.  This was one day last summer when I decided that Mitch deserved to go downtown and see the sights.  About thirty seconds in, I realized that I'd made a horrible mistake, but was so excited about this food that I suffered through my psychopathic and racist dog harrassing every person who walked by.

4.  Bethy.

I took this picture in Olivier's parents' basement, right after talking to Becky on the phone.  Becky was devastated because she had pneumonia and was not able to go to the wedding.  We called her from the reception, and sent her this picture via text.  That weekend was amazing, but kind of bittersweet because I knew how sad Becky was that she couldn't be there.

5.  Cat at the vet's.

Took Mitch to the vet in December to get a heartworm test.  He's not a big fan of going to the vet, and while we waited for the results of the test in the lobby, Mitch discovered that there was a cat in this cage.  He barked; the cat hissed; I cussed.  It was less than fun.

6.  Maureen and Mitch.

When Maureen and Brian came to Savannah over New Year's, Mitch was not terribly generous with his couch.  But at least he'll let people use him as a pillow.

7.  Papers to grade.

Poetry portfolios?  Apparently I am a masochist.

8.  Walk to Daffin Park.

Savannah has some beautiful parks, and lucky for us, this one's only a few blocks away from our house.  Mitch loves the long walks, and loves to roll around in the freshly-cut grass (and stain his face green).  I love being able to see fireworks from my living room window on weekends. Daffin Park is also home to the oldest minor leage baseball stadium in the country.  Babe Ruth played there.  That's pretty cool.

9.  Freedom Tickler?

Are you kidding me, gas station bathroom in South Carolina?!  This makes me want to go to Target, and to protest wars, and to eat some French toast.  Crazy ass people and their fake patriotism.

10.  Cutest thing ever.

Blurry, but ridiculously cute.  I'll give him as many cough drops as he wants.

I Heart Grandma and Grandpa.

It’s been a while since you’ve heard anything from Grandma Carol and Grandpa B., so I thought I’d fill you in with snippets from Grandma’s emails. It’s funny; as I grow older I think that she’s the one I have most in common with, the one I’ll likely resemble more and more.

Loved the video for Cupcake Wars..........I will watch for it on Food Network. Also, Andy Rooney is one of my favorites................

Beautiful day here today.........about 60 degrees and sunny..........I am ready for Spring. Going to Las Vegas, next Tues for a week of basketball, bingo and slots! Wahooo!

I made some killer green chile chicken enchiladas yesterday ..........along with a tamale pie.........both turned out very well. Grandpa does not eat Mexican...

…….Then went to the mall and did a little shopping...........stuff for my trip. Always think I need something new when I take a trip and also wanted a gift for my friend. I really hate the mall, but once or twice a year is tolerable.

I will be sending you a small package in the next day or two via UPS.........I will let you know what the expected arrival date is so that you can be watching for it.
More Later, Love, Grandma Carol

I am off and running........pharmacy, Wal-Mart etc to get things for my trip. I leave early Tues. morning.

Paper says Lobo fans are going to take over Las Vegas! They expect 4 to 5,000 from Albuq. Hope they don't get too rowdy and cause some kind of incident! I had a dream last nite that I was playing some king of fortune teller slot machine and won $600,000.00................wouldn't that be something! Maybe it is a good omen..HA
Grandpa is going sailing.........his Sat afternoon pastime.

Also, I forgot to tell you........Grandpa mailed your surprise package on Thurs, but by regular mail not UPS as I would have done..........not a big deal...........just be aware it may be there the end of next week...........
The PO is one of my pet peeves..........not dependable, keep raising rates and less service. Now they want to quit delivering on Sat! What a bunch of crap...........Later, Grandma Carol

I talked to them on the phone Saturday, and Grandpa was telling me all about his day racing his remote-control sailboats with his remote-control sailboat racing club. (Seriously, I want to retire, like. . .now.) He said he’d had a great day sailing, and it was even more exciting because he came in third place. Of course, he said, only three people were racing.

Then he was telling me about how the club has fewer members now than it did a few years back. He thought that the members had tired of sailboat racing; Grandma says they’ve just all died.

Grandma--hope you're having fun in Vegas. Go Lobos! Also, would you please win that $600,000 and share some with me?

Go Adam!

All the cool people know that tonight is part one of the finale of American Idol. Matt and I mocked AI for years, but finally became interested last year during the writer’s strike, when nothing else was available to watch. What we hadn’t realized for all of those years is that AI is fantastic. There’s something really special about a show that appeals to me, my grandma, Matt's parents, and my students all at the same time. And there’s something even more special about Adam Lambert.

Oh, Adam. . . He’s kind of like Elvis gone punk. I’ve gushed about Adam to the point where Matt might leave me. I’ve spent hours on the phone voting for him, and I’ve downloaded all of his performances on iTunes. It’s probably true that Adam would be much more interested in Matt than in me, but I don’t care. He’s going on the list!

What seems really funny to me is that when we were younger, my friend Tanya and I had a string of beautiful Adams with whom we were obsessed. There was Adam the Jehovah’s Witness with one eye (well, he was blind in one eye), there was Adam with the webbed feet, there was her neighbor Adam (we would take pictures of him with her mom’s nice camera with the powerful zoom lens). And now there’s guyliner skinny jeans Adam. It feels like my life is coming full circle.

By the way, my grandma is also an Adam Lambert fan.
