This and That

1.  If Richard Blais doesn't win Top Chef All-Stars, then I will never watch that show again.  If Richard Blais loses to Mike Isabella, then I will never watch TV again.  Mike Isabella is so skeezy!

2.  There is a handful of movies that I will watch every time I see them on TV.  This list includes, but is not limited to: Groundhog Day, Father of the Bride (parts I and II), Forgetting Sarah Marshall, A River Runs Through It, and the first Sex and the City movie*.  Slate had a pretty cool article recently about what makes a movie re-watchable.  What movies can you watch over and over?

3.  Operation: Skinny Unicorn is going pretty well.  I have been eating much better (and much less!) lately, and have been feeling pretty good.  I say that now.  Last week I might have had a tantrum where I just kept telling Matt, "I'M HUNGRY!"  while throwing my body around like Paul Rudd's character Andy on Wet Hot American Summer.  Maybe I then threw myself on my bed and cried for several minutes and was just a big baby?

This week has been much better, and I'm determined to win, because I need some new shoes.  Check out my favorite school shoes.

4.  I have tomorrow off of school because it's St. Patrick's Day.  Isn't that awesome?  And Friday is a teacher workday.  Unfortunately, I won't see a ninth grader until Monday.  Oh, shoot.

5.  Modern Family needs to come back with some new episodes.  I'm going through withdrawal!

6.  I've been completely obsessed lately with watching Brothers and Sisters on Netflix instant.  Why is it so good?  Also, it's kind of terrible, and the writing is the worst, but I love it anyway.

7.  Mitch is still the cutest dog on the planet.

8.  I only have ten more days of my twenties.  That's freaky.

9. I want this flying car.

10. This week Matt and I went over to the dark side; we joined Sam's Club.  You don't have to scold me, but you can judge away.  And then be jealous of the 30-pack of awesome sweet and salty granola bars that we have in our pantry.

*I actually hate the Sex and the City movie, but am, for some god-forsaken reason, completely unable to tear myself away from it--especially the part where Carrie asks, after she was stood up by Big (except not really stood up--she's just crazy), "Will I ever laugh again?"  I really hate that movie, and should institute some sort of punishment for myself each time I watch it.  But isn't watching the movie punishment enough?

Gorgeous Weekend

This weekend was out of control beautiful, and we wanted to soak up every bit of fun and sunshine that we possibly could.

Savannah can be a real pain in the ass sometimes, but there's just something so exhilarating about spending an afternoon lying on a blanket in the sun, and then realizing that, oh em gee, it's February (!).  Springtime in Savannah is just glorious.

Because life has been a bummer lately, this weekend we felt almost obliged to have fun, and to appreciate the beauty in our lives.

So we went downtown, drank margaritas, and mingled with the tourists.

And we stalked a puppy so cute I thought my uterus would burst.

And we went to hang out with Iris and Opal.

And we went to the park.

And we drank smoothies.

And we played games.

And we watched other people.

And we smiled.  And some of us read books.

And we laughed. And we just enjoyed the company of each other, and of our friends.

This and That

1. Getting super pumped about Thanksgiving.  We're headed to the White Hot Household for the feast and festivities.  Check out the menu that Cassie has planned.  But let me warn you first: you will be jealous.  (Only six more school days until Thanksgiving fun!)

2. My friend wanted me to take her Nikon D40 and figure out how to use it so that I can show her how to use it.  Uh, okay!  So I have in my possession a fancy camera, and a crazy lens baby, and I've been doing some experimenting.   Do you think she'll notice if I accidentally forget to return it?  What if I return to her a hunk of chocolate that's shaped like a camera?

Clearly, I have a lot of learning to do.

3.  I can't wait to finish watching It's Complicated on HBO.  I was watching it the other night, but movie narcolepsy set in and I didn't finish.  If I had to have an ex-husband, I would love nothing more than for him to be Alec Baldwin.  Matt said that he wouldn't like that because Alec Baldwin is so manly and he would be intimidating.  I guess it's good that I don't have an ex-husband.

4.  Yesterday I went with my friend to the Flannery O'Connor Childhood Home to listen to a lecture about the origins of Southern cookin'.  It was pretty cool, and I learned a lot.  One of the most interesting parts, to me, was the part where the lecturer, Tim Rutherford, explained how the Moon Pie came to be.  Apparently, it was a last-ditch effort of the Chattanooga Cracker Company to remain relevant, and the pies were shaped to fit into miners' lunchboxes perfectly.  Plus, he brought some Moon Pies to share with us.  Would you believe that I'd never had one?  Also, would you believe that I'd never, in my seven years of living in Savannah, been to Flannery's old house?  I've been missing out!

5.  Joy had her baby!

6.  Target's Christmas stuff this year is wanting.  But I did find these cute little ornaments that look like they're handmade even though I'm sure they're not.

7.  My fantasy football team, the East Dillon Lions, is in a 4-way tie for first place!  Last night I beat Cris's team, which was formerly in first place all by itself.  I think that the reason that I won was because of the coaching skills of the handsome Eric Taylor.  I also won, I believe, because I have lions and she has gorillaz (yes, with a z), and apparently lions are more ferocious.  Also, because I have a husband who takes care of all of that fantasy football stuff for me and lets me take all of the credit.  Of course, I should be keeping my mouth shut, because last time I bragged about my team, I lost two games in a row.  Roar!

8.  I've been trying to be a more healthy eater, in theory at least.  Matt just suggested traveling to Mexico for margaritas and a burrito especial.  And when someone recommends margaritas and burritos, you never say no.  At least I don't.
